ABOUT: The Deuxieme Cardigan is a classic ribbed cardigan that’s designed to feel familiar yet luxurious. It’s knit top-down in 2x2 ribbing and includes shoulder shaping, waist and hip shaping, and suggestions on how to customize for your unique shape. The body is joined under the arms and worked in one piece, while the set-in sleeves are knit in the round with short-row sleeve cap shaping and a gentle taper to the wrist. The double-knit button band is added at the end, and the pattern includes options for a classic button-front version, or a trendier tie-front version.

SIZES: Graded for 8 sizes and designed to be worn with -2” to +2” (-5 cm to +5 cm) of ease at the bust. The finished garment’s bust measurement for sizes (1; 2; 3; 4) 5; 6; 7; 8 are (30.75; 34; 38; 43.25) 46.75; 50.75; 54; 59.25 inches, or (78; 86.5; 96.5; 110) 118.5; 129; 137; 150.5 centimeters. See the photos for full sizing chart.

GAUGE: 24st & 34 rows in 4” x 4”, after blocking.

YARN: 1 strand of fingering-weight merino yarn held together with 1 strand of lace-weight silk/mohair. The sample uses 1 strand of fingering-weight MCN sock yarn (80% superwash merino, 10% cashmere, 10% merino) held together with 1 strand of Lana Grossa Silkhair. Yardage estimates by size are approximately (1030; 1140; 1280; 1420) 1560; 1710; 1840; 2010 yards or (940; 1040; 1170; 1300) 1430; 1560; 1680; 1840 meters of each type of yarn.

If you’d like to use the suggested Knitting For Olive Merino & Knitting For Olive Soft Silk Mohair, the yarn estimates are:
Merino: (5.5; 6; 7; 7.5) 8; 9; 9.5; 10.5 balls
Soft silk mohair: (3; 3; 3; 3.5) 4; 4.5; 5; 5 balls.

TOOLS:

  • 6 locking stitch markers
  • tapestry needle
  • 5 - 8 buttons (sample uses ~1cm shank buttons) or ~1 yd/m of ribbon; needle & thread for sewing buttons or ribbon to cardigan.
