Dewblek Double-sided Cowl

Details:

This magic knit creates two looks in one. A double-sided, cosy cowl where both sides are knitted at once. There is no ‘wrong side’ to this knit and the finished item is completely reversible. Everyone is always amazed at how it has been made and the secret is surprisingly simple. The cowl is beautifully warm and snug for those chilly days and with a choice of three sizes, you can also decide to twin with your favourite little people.

Dewblek is the Cornish word for double… which side will you wear today?

Yarn:

Two colours of aran 100% merino wool. The sample uses Drops
Big Merino in Forest Green and Olive (50 g = approx. 75 m / 82 y).

Colour A (main colour): 2, 2, 3 x 50g skeins
Colour B (contrast colour): 1, 1, 2 x 50g skeins

(Please note that yardage may vary depending on yarn used, gauge variations or modifications).

Gauge:

16 sts & 24 rows = 4”/10 cm (measured in the round following the pattern, after blocking).

This gauge was achieved using 5mm circular needles.

Needles and notions:

  • 2 x 5mm circular needles with 60cm cable. (These needle sizes are for guidance only - use the needle size you need to achieve gauge.)
  • Stitch markers.
  • Tapestry needle.

Notes on double-sided knitting:

Double-sided knitting allows you to create two layers of fabric at the same time, with only one pair of needles. You end up with stockinette stitch on both sides, meaning the finished fabric is entirely reversible. As an extra bonus, the double layers make a knit which is extra warm and snug.
