Have you ever heard of exposed aggregate concrete? It’s a concrete mixture that has larger pebble chunks in it that stick out, or are exposed, when the concrete dries. Diaggregate beanie and headband is named after the pebbled texture (exposed aggregate) created from this stitch pattern. Where does “di” come in? These pebbles move in a diagonal spiral, so the words “diagonal,” and “aggregate,” are combined here, just like the pebbled texture on a diagonal. Included in this pattern are instructions for the beanie, headband, and cowl.

Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill in stranded/two color knitting and knitting in the round is required. For the beanie, skill in decreasing in the round is required.

Malabrigo Rasta (100% superwash merino wool; 90 yds/150 g)
Meggles Knits Puff Super Bulky (100% superwash merino wool; 123 yds/226 g); or similar single ply super bulky weight yarn.

Needles and Notions
US 13/9.0 mm 16”/40 cm circular needles and/or DPNs for crown decreases. Optional US 11/8.0 mm circular needles for ribbing.
Notions: Sliding stitch marker, scissors, tape measure, crochet hook or large eye tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

To fit head sized 19” to 21” in circumference, or adult s/m. Sizes listed are length (half circumference) x height. Finished pieces have approximately 4”/10 cm to 6”/15 cm of negative ease (stretch).
Beanie: 8.5” x 9”/22 cm x 23 cm
Headband: 9” x 4”/23 cm x 10 cm
Cowl: 11.5” x 8”/29.5 cm x 20.5 cm

Gauge
8 sts x 12 rows = 4” x 4”/10 cm x 10 cm with US 13/9.0 mm needles in stockinette stitch.
