This design is based on a French floor tile. It is made in a new crochet technique that I have called carreaux crochet.

When you have only one patch the diagonal is the most visible. My first design had 21 sc, this one is made of 17 sc, hence the name. If you make several and put them together the corners will turn into flowers.
