Diagonal design adds an interesting color blocked look and not so boring with all the stockinette stitches. I designed this shawl to be a very easy project. YO increasing method is so much easier than those M1 increases :)
It would be a great project to take on your summer vacation! and wear!!

YARN

This shawl is designed for Rowan “Hemp Tweed”.
Hemp (25%) helps to prevent the stockinette stitch edge from curling up. (You need to wet block when you finish knitting.)
If you knit with 100% wool, the edge might not stay flat like the photos.

  • The yardage above is the total of 4 balls. You use all the yarns! (Doesn’t it make you feel good about NO left overs!!)
  • If you wish to make the shawl longer, you could simply add more balls in the straight section.
  • Substitute yarn - Any yarn that contains hemp, linen would work great. 100% linen will be very pretty too. If you are not sure that the edge will stay flat with your yarn choice, I would recommend to knit a swatch with St.st and check after wet blocking. If you choose to knit with smaller yarn, you need to keep increasing more sts. If you are an experienced knitter, it would be very easy to adjust the pattern.

NEEDELS

  • Either straight needles (long ones) or 24”(or longer) circular needles work.
  • If you are using other yarns, please check your gauge (after wet blocking) carefully before knitting. This “Hemp Tweed” relaxed the fabric a lot after wet blocking.
  • If you are a tight knitter, please size up your needles. You won’t get the light and soft feel from tight knitted fabric. Also the finished shawl will be smaller.
