Diagonal Garter Stitch Hat
Diagonal Garter Stitch Hat…
with a wrap and a turn!
This diagonal garter stitch hat uses short rows, a technique that creates curves or angles in your knitting. Since the knitting is turned before completing a row, stitches must be wrapped at the turn to prevent holes.
Short rows can eliminate the step effect you get when casting off at the shoulders and can also be used for sock heels and interesting scarves. In this pattern, the wraps and turns create shaping for the crown of the hat.
This is a great pattern to practice short rows and a good project for a beginner spinner. It would look terrific in a variegated yarn.
Using an appropriate needle size for your yarn, knit a small swatch in garter stitch to determine your gauge, then cast on required sts to equal 38cm (15”).
(Designed for any gauge; yardage will vary according to your chosen yarn weight)
(Finishing options: seamed OR three needle bind off)
