“Nested diamonds build on one another from this bandana cowl’s tip to its top hem, creating an allover geometric pattern reminiscent of Art Deco architecture. Grounded by garter stitch finishings and given a delicate touch by the peekaboo yarn-overs lining the bottom corner, the cowl has subtle funnel shaping built into ribbing at the back neck. Pair with the Diamants Hat for a subtly graphic coordinating set.” — designer, Mary Weaver

Construction

  • This cowl begins at the lower front and is worked flat from the tip of the bandana section upwards, with stitches increased by working a yarn over at the beginning of every row. At the end of the bandana section, stitches are cast on at each end of the row for the lower back edge of the cowl, then joined into the round and the remainder of the piece is worked circularly.
  • A ribbed panel is established at the center back of the cowl, and decreases are worked in this section to gently shape the fit of the piece.
  • The top hem is worked in garter stitch on a smaller needle.
  • Stitches are picked up directly from the yarn overs along the edges of the bandana section, as well as along the cast-on edge to work the lower border. Lower border is worked in garter stitch with mitered shaping at the bottom corner.
