Diamond Central Scarf uses a provisional cast on, working each half of the scarf starting from the center, leaving live stitches to keep everything fluid, and shows you how to attach a lace edging around corners.

This scarf features a large crossing-diamonds panel flanked by four repeats of a very simple six-stitch allover lace. Once the main part of the scarf is finished, you’ll pick up stitches around all four sides and add a small picot-like edging.

The main part of the scarf and about one-quarter of the edging was complete when the first ball came to an end. With two balls, you can make a longer and wider scarf. To stick with one ball, consider casting on and beginning with Row 28 of the central motif, knitting seven rather than eight repeats.

Gauge is not critical here. Just find the gauge that produces the fabric you want. Be sure to wash and block your gauge swatch - it will change dramatically.

Needles: Two US 2.5 (3mm) circular needles 24” (60cm) long,
and two US 2.5 (3mm) dpns for edging or size needed to obtain gauge.
