Diamond For A Girl
This is a pattern for lace, fingering or 4-ply weight yarn. Pick a needle that will produce you a fabric you are happy with. The red sample shawl is worked in light fingering weight yarn with needle size 4mm (US 6).
It will look well in yarns, that give a nice drape. Alpaca, silk, wool, cashmere, mohair, or blends will look nice. The red shawl is worked in extra fine merino.
Customize the size to make either a small scarf to wrap around your neck or a full size shawl.
I suggest using stitch markers for the center stitch at the lace part, optionally you might want to use them for pattern repeats, too.
You will need to know how to:
- do a provisional cast on;
- knit
- purl
- yarn over
- knit two stitches together
- knit two stitches together through the back loop
- slip a stitch
The lace part of the pattern is provided as a chart. While the body of the shawl is a plain, relaxing knit of stockinette, the lace chart, although easy to read, requires some concentration at certain rows.
This shawl has been tested in a variety of yarns, thanks to my fantastic test knitters, who made this a better pattern!
Please, share your finished objects :) It is amazing to see how the same design looks in various yarns, done by different people, giving inspiration to other knitters.
