Diamond Lovey
Diamond Lovey is an alternative way for children to stay snuggly warm while reading, watching TV, or engaging in other quiet time activities. Nearly a full circle, it wraps as comfortably around your favorite youngster as warmly as a hug, but it won’t trip him up when he’s moving around. For the imaginative mind, a Diamond Lovey becomes a great super hero cape! A generous band near the bottom of the Diamond Lovey provides space to personalize it with a message of up to 41 characters and spaces. Stitches used are knit, purl, slip, and make one. There is an allover design formed by the texture of knits and purls. The pattern is in charted format only, because of the personalization band. Some previous positive experience with reading charts is highly recommended.
Yarn: Child friendly worsted weight, in a smooth yarn. A tighter twist will show the stitch design to advantage. Consider a superwash wool, acrylic, or cotton blend. Model in photos was knit with acrylic. Pattern is written for 3 colors. The range reflects amounts used by test knitters who worked at different gauges while creating Diamond Lovey and its twin, Sweetheart Lovey.
- Color A – Main Color – 1000-1300 yards
- Color B – Accent Color – 50-75 yards
- Color C – Personalization Band – 450 – 500 yards (Personalization band will be easier to read if it is knit in a light to medium color)
Purple version shown in photos is Diamond Lovey’s twin, Sweetheart Lovey. Photo included so you can see the actual shape of a Lovey. This was a Ravelympics Design project, and the Diamond Lovey version was knit by my test knitter, Sara Greer, who kindly allowed me use of her photos. Sweetheart Lovey is available separately.
