Diamond Maze Lap Blanket
The blanket is knitted bottom up in a Mosaic/Slip stitch pattern, using basic stitches, cable pattern and two colours of yarn. At a glance it looks complicated and intricate, but Mosaic knitting involves just two simple techniques- slipping stitches and changing colours between rows. You work with one colour per row, swapping colours every 2 rows. The best thing- there are no floats as in stranded knitting or multiple balls of yarn per row as in intarsia cable technique. To highlight one colour diamonds, I used melange colour shade yarn for contrast effect background.
Choose any texture and colour of yarn to make this knock-out blanket!
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate.
Stitches used: k, p, sl wyif, sl wyib, 2/1 LC, 2/1 RC, 2/2 LC.
MATERIALS REQUIRED
• CC - Rico Creative Melange Chunky (Shade 07 Grey) 5 x 50g balls 425m/465
yds.
• MC - Rico essentials Alpaca Blend Chunky (shade 007 medium grey) 6 x 50g balls 540m/591 yds.
NB If you substitute another yarn, please check tension and yardage.
• 1 Circular needle 8.00mm x 80cm (US 11).
• 1 Circular needle 7.00mm x 80cm (US 10 ¾).
• 1 Tapestry needle.
ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS after washing and blocking:
Blanket width - 115cm / 45 ¼ in.
Blanket length - 90cm / 35 ½ in.
GAUGE (Tension): 14 sts and 22 rows = 10cm (4 in), measured over slip st pattern, (garment being blocked), using 8.00mm (US 11) needle.
NB Needle size is only a guide - if you get too many stitches for 10cm, take a larger needle size. If you get too few stitches for 10cm, take a smaller needle
size. It’s very important to check your gauge (tension) before starting as working to the wrong tension will mean your blanket won’t be size shown.
