This mitten combines two types of slip stitches to create a surface design. The underlying fabric is striped, with the palm of the hand being knit with two rows of the main colour and then 2 rows of slipped stitches. The back of the hand, the slipped stitches are carried on the surface and then picked up and knit in place to create the diamond pattern.

I originally knit this mitten to use up a small amount of a colourful Navajo plied handspun, but you can also use any handpainted commercial yarn to great effect. The pattern calls for 2 skeins of the main colour and 1 of the handpainted yarn.
