The bag is made in two parts. The inside is knitted then felted to form the base and body of the bag. After felting the bag is measured to determine the gauge/tension for the lace panel which is knitted in cotton on a circular needle. The base is left bare to show the contrasting colour.

Bag feet, leather handles and a pretty cotton lining make this a practical bag for everyday use. Felted straps join together with magnetic fasteners inside the bag to pull in the side gussets. The straps can also be secured to the inside of the lining to form loops to hold your keys or leave them out altogether if you prefer a bucket shape bag. The leather handles are hand stitched to the lace.
This a written pattern and not charted. The circumference of the felted bag is 32”;the cotton lace gauge is 15sts and 28 rows on size 6 US (4mm) needles. I used 60g of cotton which had been in my stash for some years and was unlabelled. It is a thick DK, almost aran weight cotton.
