Introduction
Welcome to the Solid Sock Knitters June 2023 Mystery Sock KnitAlong! I am so excited to be here with you, and really hope you decide to join me. These socks will be knit top-down with a heel flap & short-row heel and use charts to guide you in the knitting of this design. The main feature of this design is cables, with some ribbing to give the sock a bit of stretch. I will be releasing a total of FOUR (4) clues through the month of June 2023; the release plan is as follows:

Clue 1 – Thursday June 1st
Clue 2 – Thursday June 8th
Clue 3 – Thursday June 15th
Clue 4 – Thursday June 22nd

Since this is a mystery knitalong, charts and a description of the required stitches for each clue will be included as the clues are released each week through the month of June. Each Clue will be released as an updated version of the pattern so that all Clues issued up to that point are included in a single document. The stitch “glossary” will grow every week as new sybmols are used, so if you are printing each Clue, make sure you print the glossary along with it. I am a relatively new user of Knit Companion, but have done my best to ensure that the charts can be easily set up in the app.

SIZE
Small (Medium, Large) corresponding to a leg circumference of approximately 15.5cm (16.5cm, 17cm)/ 6 ¼ ” (6 ½ ”, 6 ¾ ”) unstretched and a foot circumference of approximately 16.75cm (17.5cm, 20cm)/6 ¼ ” (7”,8”) unstretched.

A note on the sizing: the words “Small”, “Medium” and “Large” refer to the fit of the sock around the leg or foot. The fabric of this sock is slightly less elastic than a plain vanilla sock, so please consider this when deciding on the size you are going to knit.

GAUGE
8 sts/12 rows = 2.5cm/1 inch in stockinette st

Row gauge is important when knitting this sock so I would suggest that you swatch ahead of time if you have any doubts.

MATERIALS
• 400m/435 yds fingering weight/sock yarn. Since this pattern is for the Solid Sock Knitters group, it has been designed specifically for a solid colour yarn which is what you need to use if you are knitting for the MKAL. Tonal and/or gradient yarns will most likely work well too, but I haven’t had these tested so can’t guarantee that it will work. I don’t recommend using highly variegated yarns. I knit my sample using Schachenmayr Regia 4-fädig 4-ply yarn which is the sponsor yarn for this KAL
• Cable needle (optional – if you are adept at cabling without one, you should be fine).
• Stitch marker (optional)
• Tapestry needle for grafting toe & weaving the ends

RECOMMENDED NEEDLES:
2.25mm/US 1 needles, either one or two circular or a set of 5 Double-Pointed Needles (DPN) per your preference.

Note 1: No matter what your choice in needle, always use the size that gives you the gauge listed below -- every knitter’s gauge is unique and can be different with different techniques.
Note 2: I have written this pattern for knitting with one or two circular needles, however it can be adjusted to using five double-pointed needles (DPN’s) – suggestions for how the sts should be divided across 4 DPNs are included in each Clue. In all other instances, work as instructed for N1 across the sts of DPNs 1&2, and for N2 across DPNs 3&4.

The sock has been tested across all three sizes by an amazing group of knitters. Thanks to AZCactuswren, bookworm33329, envista, funkysheep, Zoei for all their support and fantastic input.
