“Is it perfume from a dress that makes me so digress?”

T. S. Eliot, “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock

Beautiful and simple to wear but engaging to knit with an easy lace pattern worked lengthwise and a short-row wedge at one end that creates beautiful movement when you fling it over your shoulder, briefly wafting your perfume into the air. Self-striping yarns emphasize the knitterly technique in this pattern, but hand-painted yarns would also be lovely, as the dynamic short-rows and ever increasing lace pattern keep colors from pooling predictably.

MATERIALS:
200-400 yards desired yarn
Straight or circular needles 3-4 sizes larger than suggested size

Sample used 220 yards DK weight Noro Cashmere Island with a suggested needle size of #6 (knit on #10s for drape)

GAUGE: 3 st per inch stockingette (exact gauge is not crucial, but smaller gauge will make the scarf shorter lengthwise and larger gauge will make the scarf longer lengthwise)

SIZE: 60” long by 6” wide with 7” by 30” flutter end
