Dinner at Eight Hat
Introducing the The Dinner at Eight Hat!
This early 1930s style fitted hat is no ordinary hat pattern. While it is worked in the round, there are no increases, no decreases, no double pointed needles, AND it uses sport weight held double so it is a very quick knit! This design aims to evoke the high fashion knitwear that came out in the early 1930s. Something structural that could be worn in different ways and could be matched to other knitted items.
This pattern is perfect for an experienced knitter wanting a quick knit / palette cleanser between big projects, and is a great challenge for an adventurous beginner! The hat is worked in double moss stitch, and uses short row shaping to create the crown and the pointed end. Then a three needle bind off is used to join the hat together, so there is no need to switch to DPNs at all! The pattern includes a photo tutorial for how to shape the top of the hat, and you can choose to leave it plain like the blue sample, or add a little pom pom (or two) to give it a bit more interest!
