Discworld: Foot-the-Ball Gloves
This is a sideways-knit (flat) long, ruffled, fingerless glove. Techniques include ribbing, cable cast-on, short rows, picking up stitches, seaming, picot bind-off (instructions given in pattern).
Prototype was knit with my handspun, an aran weight 3-ply Rambouillet/silk yarn in mint/white. Amount of yarn needed is overestimated, because I’m not entirely certain of how much handspun I had. There was not more than 140 yards in my skein, but I don’t want to mislead anyone and have you come up short!
People have asked where the name comes from. “Foot-the-Ball” is the old Discworld term for “football” (soccer-type, not American football), and the pattern was originally developed to take advantage of yarns that self-striped in team colors. I could never get those to work out right (see all my other projects for details), but this is the same effect, with a thicker yarn. Since the pattern name already existed on Ravelry I just overwrote the old pattern with the new one.
