I have to admit that I buy yarn from the internet and don’t always read carefully. Some sock yarn is really sport weight. I swear off Noro - too think and thin - and then swoon when I see the beautiful colors and hit the “add to cart” button. I needed a sock pattern for thicker yarn that wouldn’t add too much bulk. Also I wanted to make socks from my hand- spun, but I don’t spin thin enough to get a three ply sock yarn.

I designed this sock while binge watching “Disenchantment” on Netflix. Things are not always what they appear to be. The cables are not true cables, but Mock Cables, using lifted increases and decreases instead of moving stitches around. There is also a yarn over version for a lacier look

This basic cuff down sock with heel flap, round heel and standard toe is suitable for any sock yarn. It features mock cables and optional twisted knit stitch ribbing. While written for 5 double pointed needles, it could easily be adapted for magic loop, 2 circulars or any other small circumference method. The foot length can be adjusted (written for about a 9 inch sock - women’s medium). The sock width (8 inches unstretched) could be made larger in increments of 6 stitches by adding more panels of ribbing on the sides or the center.
