CONSTRUCTION:
This bonnet is knit seamlessly. The front of the bonnet is knit flat, featuring an easy textured stitch; the crown is knit in the round after the back neck is finished by a three-needle bind off.
An applied I-cord and I-cord ties are worked on the neck portion, then an applied I-cord is worked around the front to cinch in the fit around the face.
SKILLS REQUIRED: cast on, knitting, purling, decreasing, working an easy texture stitch, working I-cord and applied I-cord (explanations provided), yarn over, three-needle bind off.
SIZES:
0-3mo (3-12mo, 12-24mo)
For head circumference up to: 16 (18, 19) inches or 40.5 (46, 48) cm.
Finished bonnet is approximately 10.5 (12, 12.75) inches or 26.5 (30.5, 32.5) cm around face measured from base of jaw.
Bonnet depth is: 5.5 (6, 7) inches or 14 (15, 18) cm.
YARN REQUIREMENTS:
Approximately 110 (130, 160) yds or 101 (119, 146) meters of DK weight yarn.
NEEDLES:
- US 6 or 4mm circular needle, or size needed to match stockinette stitch gauge.
- US 4 or 3.5mm circular needle, or size needed to match garter stitch gauge.
- 1 set dpns matching smaller needle size .
NOTIONS:
- tapestry needle
- 8 stitch markers
GAUGE:
22 sts x 28 rows = 4 inches or 10cm in stockinette stitch using larger needles, after blocking
23 sts x 56 rows (i.e. 28 garter ridges) = 4 inches or 10cm in garter stitch using smaller needles, after blocking
Please adjust your needle size if needed to achieve gauge.
