Fun and fast, these mitts make a great gift. The double helix on the top of each mitt stands out clearly, while the ribbed underside and thumb stretch to fit any adult-sized science lover in your life. Gift them individually or as a set with my DNA Scarf and DNA Hat.

Yarn: Worsted weight, 128 yds (117 m).

Shown in: Malabrigo Worsted, colorway 117, Verde Adriana. Worsted weight, 100% merino wool, 210 yds (192 m) per skein. Less than 1 skein used.

Needles: One set of U.S. size 7 (4.5 mm) double pointed needles (dpns) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Optional extra needles: U.S. Size 6 (4.0 mm) or U.S. Size 5 (3.75 mm) double pointed needles (dpns) for ribbing. I personally don’t use a smaller needle for ribbing, and the samples shown don’t use one, but I know a lot of knitters prefer to use a smaller ribbing needle.

Gauge: 24 stitches and 35 rounds = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in DNA pattern, on body needles, blocked. To make swatch, work stitches 1-24 of Left Mitt for Round 0/Set up Round - Round 34. Remember to work your swatch in the round!

Notions: Locking stitch marker, cable needle, tapestry needle.

Finished Measurements: 8” (20 cm) long. Unstretched Circumference 7” (18 cm). Mitts stretch to fit up to an 11” (28 cm) arm circumference. Maximum stretch will lower the mitt’s length by approximately 1” (2.5 cm).

Techniques Used: German Twisted Cast-On, Backward Loop Cast-On, Knits, Purls, Cables, Twists, Knitting in the Round, Knitting Flat, Picking Up Stitches, Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off
