I just love the musical The Sound of Music, so many of the songs are fa- miliar… from the title song “The Sound of Music”, “Maria”, “Sixteen going on Seventeen”, “Edelweiss”, to “So Long, Farewell”, and of course “Do-Re- Mi.”When I hear any of these songs I can picture where they were sung in the show and I can sing along with the first verse or so, BUT “Do-Re- Mi” has me singing the song thru - I just can’t help myself that song just pulls me in, which will bring me back to “Do”!

The original Broadway production opened in November 1959 and was adapted as a film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer in 1965. The film won 5 Academy Awards and was the final musical writ- ten by Rodgers and Hammerstein as Oscar Hammerstein died of cancer nine months after the Broadway premier. Such a great loss, who knows what other musical magic they could have created.

The 5 open lines in the square represent the musical staff, the 8 puff stitches represent the “Do-Re-Mi” progression and the post stitch rep- resents the von Trapp family sticking together and acting as one. You could say we’re bringing the yarn alive with our hooks and stitches!
