Dobby’s Hooded Cardigan
My goal as a designer is to create fun, beginner-friendly patterns that are enjoyable to create! With fewer parts to sew together and simple stitches, my hope is for you to truly enjoy the experience of creating something rather than getting stressed out, frustrated or bored! I hope you enjoy this project as much as I enjoyed designing it and I can’t wait to see your creations!
This pattern was created for Furls Crochet as part of their 2021 blog hop! I used their amazingly soft Whims Merino Crochet Yarn – Superwash Merino And Nylon in worsted weight (4) in Purple, Periwinkle, Spearmint, Mustard and Pink! I also used my 10mm Furls Taurus Streamline Swirl!
This is a free pattern but you can find the PDF version of this pattern in my Etsy shop HERE!
This cardigan is created holding two strands of yarn together. Although it has instructions for the striping color changes, you also have the option to use a a single color or variegated yarn and ignore striping if you’d like!
Estimated Yardage
S/M – 1,700
M/L – 2,100 yards
L/XL – 2,500 yards
XL/2X – 2,900 yards
2X/3X – 3,300 yards
As for break downs of the yardage needed for each color, this is highly dependent on how many colors you decide to use, if you decide to add length to the body or sleeves, and if you meet my exact gauge for the pattern. For my S/M shown in the photos, I used about 480 yards of Color #1, 300 yards of Color #2, 380 yards of Color #3, 240 yards of Color #4, 240 yards of Color #5.
One of my M/L testers reported using: Color #1 – 545 yards, Color #2 – 302 yards, Color #3 – 444 yards, Color #4 – 240 yards, Color #5 – 280 yards
One of my L/XL testers reported using: Color #1 – 589 yards, Color #2 – 348 yards, Color #3 – 456 yards, Color #4 – 329 yards, Color #5 – 228 yards
One of my 2X/3X testers reported using: Color #1 – 824 yards, Color #2 – 430 yards, Color #3 – 614 yards, Color #4 – 508 yards, Color #5 – 342 yards
