Dog Days 7
Dog Days 7 is a simple headband in the shape of an irregular hexagon, knit mostly in garter stitch, and bordered with YO eyelets. It’s an excellent summer project, whether you work it up in summer-friendly materials or wool; either way, it’s small and light to work on, and won’t amount to a giant sweater’s worth of woolen yarn on hot summer days.
I wasn’t planning to publish another Dog Days pattern, but life is full of unexpected twists, and it is the actual dog days now, so. Here we are.
Gauge:
Gauge is 23 sts and 36 rows over 4”/10cm of blocked garter stitch. Gauge is important to the dimensions to some extent, but you can customize this, so it could be worse, I guess. Please be sure to check your gauge. (Incidentally, if you’re knitting the entire Dog Days collection, this headband shares its gauge with Dog Days 6. I double (triple) checked, but ideally, you won’t have to.)
Materials:
About 66-75 yards of Patons Kroy Sock Yarn, or any suitable sportweight substitute yarn
1 pair of straight needles, or a circular used for flat knitting, in US3/3.25mm, or size needed for gauge
1-3 buttons, compatible with eyelets, about 1/2”-5/8”
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Optional: if needed, needle and thread compatible with buttons
Dog Days 7 probably winds up the entire Dog Days series. If you’ve already purchased the set (that is, if you previously purchased the Dog Days patterns 1-6), this one should check out as free when you put it in your cart. with no code needed.
Note: none of the photos are good. But I’ve included them to demonstrate how different this looks on a 20” wig styro model and on a US6 dress form as a collar. In a wool or mostly-wool yarn, this project has a lot of stretch; in a cotton yarn, it may have less, so please keep that in mind. Thanks for reading!
