I designed this hat for my brother, who every year critiqued the previous years’ hats in the hopes that one day I would create the ideal hat for him. 3 years ago he got Eddie’s Ideal Hat, and he had no more critiques to offer. But he lost that hat, so then 2 years ago I made him Oh Brother, which he wore faithfully until he dropped it into a fire this summer, which was shortly after he lost hat number 3 (Oh Brother Mountains) on a canoe trip. Fortunately, he’s knitworthy despite all the losses and accidents, so this year his annual hat came early. He always wants something simple and classic, and most importantly kept his ears warm. That’s why this hat has a wide, folded brim, which means it’s doubly warm and cozy.
Some knitters may prefer to use a provisional cast on to join the edge to the hat, and some may prefer to cast on then pick up stitches to make the join. Please choose the cast-on you’re most comfortable with.

Fits head 20-22 inches
Materials:
Yarn: Shown – Knit picks Simply Wool Worsted (218 yards/100 grams) MC-Wanda, CC- Wallace
Recommended- MC- 50 grams of worsted weight yarn. CC- 50 grams of worsted weight yarn.
Needles: 4.5 mm, 5mm needles of choice (16” circular, long circular for magic loop or DPN’s for crown shaping)
Notions: darning needle for weaving in ends, smooth waste yarn for provisional cast on if used
Gauge: 18 stitches per 4” in stockinette. 26 rows per 4” in stockinette on smaller needles
