DON'T PANIC!
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series is one of my beloved go-tos for its nerd-appeal and tongue-in-cheek humor. I love how Ford always seems to wiggle out of tight spots with the help of his trusty Hitchhiker’s Guide and his towel.
When I saw the limited edition color called “The Answer to Everything is 42” by The Yankee Dyer, it reminded me so much of all the colors (and stains) associated with such towels in the books, I just had to come up with a multi-use rectangular design!
That said, you could try any one of those rainbowtastic, yet scary skeins of fingering yarn from your stash (you know the ones of which I speak) for this wrap as well, and then imagine which of the shades in it might taste like a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. :-)
The red and green sample used two skeins of Madelinetosh Pashmina in ‘Bloodstone’, and I love it!
About the pattern:
Featuring multiple loop holes and some zig-zaggy action that Zaphod Beeblebrox would approve of, but without enough counting to keep Marvin busy, the pattern works up quite quickly and is easily modified if you happen to have more yarn and would like a bigger towel – I mean wrap - my second sample had one extra pattern repeat width-wise, and 11 extra repeats length-wise.
With some handy buttons on both ends and oh-so-many holes to button up with, the wrap can be worn in a multitude of ways: Scrunched up as a scarf, buttoned at the ends for a cowl or snood or shoulder cozy, or buttoned moebius-style or in all kinds of other creative ways that suit your situation: “There’s a frood who really knows where his towel is.”
Materials:
400 yds or more of fingering weight yarn
The multicolored sample used:

Suggested alternative yarns: Tosh Sock, Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock Lightweight, Fiddle Knits Polka Sock, Hedgehog Fibres Sock, Dragonfly Fibers Djinni Sock
Size 3mm / US 2.5 knitting needles (or size to obtain gauge) – straight or circulars would work
Small buttons
