The geometrical pattern for these gloves was inspired by some daft doodling my kids used to do to decorate their hands. The lice-stitch technique used here sprinkles single stitches of contrast color across the background, and is a clever way of carrying your contrasting yarn through the long stretches while working large, non-repeating motifs of colorwork.
You can make these gloves either with fingers or without. And as an added bonus, your kid can have a doodle on his or her hands without having to clean off the marker later.
- Intermediate difficulty – Knit, purl, colorwork in the round, simple increases and decreases.
- Finished hand circumference: 5¼ (5¾, 6¼, 6¾, 7)“ / 13.5 (14.5, 16, 17, 18) cm. Shown in size 5¼” (fingerless mitts) and 6¼“ (gloves).
- MATERIALS AND NOTIONS 1 skein each of Madelinetosh Tosh Sock (100% superwash merino wool; 395 yds/361m per 100g skein), Black Currant and Mica. (The pictured mitts were both knit from the above two skeins. I simply reversed which was the MC and which was the CC.) US #1 (2.25mm) set of dpns. Adjust needle size as needed to obtain correct gauge. Stitch markers, yarn needle.
- GAUGE 36 sts and 38 rnds = 4 in / 10cm in Lice pattern.
