One of Sanderson’s most beloved animal (alien?) companions, Doomslug (the Destroyer) is a simple slug who just loves to eat a good mushroom and trill a flutelike melody. Yet, as the series progresses, Doomslug’s hidden depths may just be the key to the galaxy and future of humankind…now, if only those mushrooms would quit distracting her…nom nom nom…

The Doomslug Socks are designed not only to call back to the sweet space slug’s appearance of a yellow body with blue stripes and spikey spine; with the colorwork motif along the toe and cuff, they are also designed as your own little “space exploration” to grow the galaxies of knitting knowledge within and “hyperjump” your skills to new dimensions. A toe-up construction worked on a shortie sock, with a wee dabbling of simple colorwork that requires no special float-catching techniques, and faux cables on the cuff, these socks pack a punch in a small space…but gently. Because Doomslug is nothing if not a trusty friend you’ll want to take with you on all your adventures.

Socks are cast on using Judy’s Magic Cast-on, then worked in the round from the toe up. These shortie socks include a colorwork toe, stockinette foot, and a heel flap and gusset heel construction worked with short rows to eliminate gaps and no picking up of stitches, followed by a short colorwork leg with a faux-cabled ribbing on the cuff. Pattern features knit stitches, 2-color colorwork, and a faux-cabled rib. Socks are worked using both in-the-round (toe, foot, leg, and cuff) and flat construction (heel flap) techniques. Socks are designed to be a sampler of techniques: toe-up construction, easy colorwork, heel flap construction, and faux-cabled ribbing. Instructions are written for Magic Loop, with two charts for the colorwork sections on the toe and leg.

Pattern is written for 3 sizes: Small (56 sts), Medium (64 sts), and Large (72 sts).
