The Door-Mat-soles are the result of my need to make a pair of solid, comfy, sturdy, durable, and cheep soles, FAST!

Doable for all handy crafters.
No sole-hole-punching! No seaming!
The slippers will be joined to the soles, or you can continue to crochet a shoe in rounds on top of the sole.
Note that sealant/glue is involved in the creating of this sole.

I LOVE the option to wear my crochet-slippers on the street!
Like canvas shoes, the traditional Espadrilles with rope-soles.
Years ago I invented the Any size Cord-Sole method.
Creates the most beautiful soles, and they will always be my favorites.
As much as I love them, the Cord-Soles are just too time-consuming for me, as I often need several pairs a month for my designs.

DOOR-MAT SOLES are the solution, creates very good soles, fast and cheep!

Also great soles are the Crochet Soles any size Customized, mostly used for home-shoes, as they are thinner.

Terminology: US - American Crochet Terms.
Skill level: Intermediate/Easy

8 pages with written instructions, and lots of step-by-step images!

Materials:
• 1 door-mat in woven sisal/jute.
Rubber-backing is perfect.
Standard measure: About 50 x 80 cm (20 x 30 inch).
My mat: Sindal from IKEA (online worldwide)
I made 18 soles, 9 pairs, out of this mat.
• 1 Heavy paper-sheet (or cardboard) for sole template.
• 1 tube transparent silicone (recommended)
Or any strong transparent acrylic adhesive.
• Sealant Gun: Standard for tubes
• Spreader: Cut a slice out of a plastic lid.
• 1 piece of sturdy plastic. I used an office plastic pocket.
• Heavy scissor, or carpet cutter, like Stanley Retractable Utility Knife.
I used scissors for leather.
• Kitchen paper

FOR EDGING OF SOLE:
• 1 ball hemp/sisal/jute, string/twine, about 2 mm thick, however workable with crochet hook not larger than 3,5 mm (US E/4).
Optional: Contrast color for the last sc-row.

Attaching out-soles to basic slippers, has several advantages.
They protect your slippers against wear and tear, makes them sturdy, and comfortable to walk and wear, it looks nice, and not least;
It turns your home slippers into street shoes!
Handmade insoles will add extra comfort and softness, and keep the slippers in shape.
Personalize the soles with matching fabric, …. and labels!
