Doriana
DORIANA is a crescent shawl knitted from side to side.
The pattern contains 6 stitches and 12 rows, which are repeated over and over. The simplicity of the pattern allows to memorize it easily and after couple repeats distant yourself from the pattern and watch your favorite show while knitting. It could be a great project for beginners and give a great confidence to make something advanced.
The shawl knitted in a Concentric by HiKoo 100% alpaca. This yarn comes in beautiful gradient colors, which are blended in and flowing not like any other I know. It has 4 strands and it changes colors by one strand at the time. The cake shape allows to see the colors and the way they would lay out. My first impression from this yarn was: anything I make with it would be very warm and soft. During cool seasons I love to have beautiful shawlette over my shoulders. Next was to come up with the pattern which would express the best of this yarn. Variegated yarns tend to hide the pattern. It took me few days before I was satisfied with the result: distinctive ridge separated by an eyelet from the dripping down stockinette stitch. It is knitted in a bias; the pattern curves the shawl into crescent shape. This simple pattern expresses the yarn beautifully. 437 yards allows to make reasonable size shawl.
All this happened during hurricane Dorian. I was in North Carolina that time. The events I was planning to attend were closed that day. The rainy day inspired me with this pattern. It was not just Dorian for me, it was Doriana.
