Doric
Mosaic knitting is a wonderful way to do colorwork. I remember when I first discovered it in the pages of a Barbara Walker pattern book. I fell in love and I’ve been studying mosaic and playing with color ever since.
For this cowl, I went back to the early mosaics in stone for inspiration. I found just the sort of pattern-work I was looking for in the Doric tile art of ancient Greece. Those crumbling facades and hand-laid pavements kept me trying different motifs until I landed on this, a cowl I call Doric.
A note about size:
I’ve made Doric in two sizes. The smaller version is approximately 24 (61 cm) inches in diameter at the top and 9 inches (23 cm) deep. It’s made with sport weight yarn on US size 7 (4.5mm) needles. The larger version is approximately 32 (81 cm) inches in diameter at the top and 11 inches (28 cm) deep. It’s made with worsted weight yarn on US size 9 (5.5mm) needles.
Enjoy!
