Here is another pattern suggestion for the college-bound teen: Pillows in school colors. This pattern is for a navy/royal blue and white combo that I think works for a lot of schools. In this case, I’ve got friends’ kids going to Yeshiva University and Villanova University… but lots of schools have this blue/white combo.

3 skeins of yarn in total and you’ll probably wind up with extra yarn. Colors in the picture are:
Bernat Blanket - Costal: Lapis (2 skeins)
Bernat Baby Blanket: Blue Dreams (1 skeins)

Hook Size L

16x16 pillow forms - either polyfill or down
2-15 inch zippers - if you want to be able to remove the covers
coordinating thread to sew in the zippers

Gauge is not critical for this pattern.

For both pillows I did four squares of :
Chain 29
Single crochet second chain from hook and across (28 stitches) chain one turn;
Continue working single crochet rows until you square is a square.
Join two squares right sides together (either sew or join with a slip stitch). Join 3 full sides and about 2-3 inches of the 4th size.

Sew in the zipper. Reverse so right sides are facing out. Fill with pillow form.
