There are many different versions of knitted basketweave stitch patterns. Here’s one I really like. It’s from 1912 Fleischer’s Knitting and Crocheting Manual, p.177. The pattern is a multiple of 20 stitches with a 20-row repeat. The swatch has 60 stitches and is 3 repeats tall.

Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

100 yards of Cascade Yarn’s ReFine yarn will make 10 inches of a 60-stitch-wide strip at gauge.
