Double Garter Stitch Square
Victorian Stitch Sampler: Double Garter Stitch
This is my rewritten version of an 1884 stitch pattern, to make squares to use for bath sets, to sew together to make patchwork afghans, etc. It is a double knitting technique that uses only 1 strand of yarn, and is easy to learn and remember. It creates a double fabric which is simple, strong, and durable.
I used the stitch to make some 3 inch square re-usable makeup-removers and a 5 inch square wash cloth.
You can use any yarn, with the appropriate needles, and make pieces any size by casting on stitches in multiples of 2. I used 6 mm needles and Bernat Handicrafter yarn.
If you have any difficulty with the stitch, or find any errors in the pattern, please contact me on Facebook West Coast Fibre Arts, or message me on Ravelry, or send an email to westcoastsupernatural@yahoo.ca
