I came up with this for the March for Science on Earth Day 2017 because there wasn’t anything that I saw in crochet and I don’t knit. I’ve never written a pattern so please point out mistakes but please be kind.

Once you see the repeat of the pattern it goes relatively quick. But you should have some knowledge of how to do crochet cables. There is not an in depth tutorial on cables in this pattern. There are lots of those out there. It is basically a cable hat with chains to represent the spinning ladder of DNA. The space in between is extended single crochet in attempt to make it a lighter weight hat and they can be replaced with half double crochet very easily.

You can change hook size up or down to increase or decrease the size of the hat.

Thanks you and happy hooking.
