This pattern was born when one of my very best friends moved into her own apartment - I told her I’d make her some dishcloths, and then I got ambitious. It’s just one piece of the set she received! (…let’s be real, is still receiving, piecemeal, in the style of all procrasti-knitters.)

This is the first project I’ve ever made completely on my own, and I figured I should type it up to celebrate!

I chose Caron Cotton Cakes for the yarn because when I was only contemplating dishcloths, I wanted cotton for absorbency and a little acrylic to resist shrinking. Really, though, anything with a decent percentage of cotton will do.

Gauge: unimportant, so long as the fabric is dense.
Needles: Size 7 (Size 7 DPNs will be needed for the thumb and cuff, but most of the mitt itself can be knit flat)

This project is knit mostly flat, with only the thumb and the cuff knit in the round. It’s incredibly customizable, so it should work with just about anything you’re willing to put your hand and a hot surface! For real: the only measuring stick you need is your hand. I’ve included a suggested number of stitches to cast on, but again: go with whatever works for you!

As far as the more complicated bits go:
If you don’t want to knit a thumb, just seem both sides.
If you don’t want to knit the cuff in the round, either start and end with some ribbing or just double knit until it’s long enough to cover some of your wrist as well as your hand!

As noted, this pattern is not gauge-critical. Go down a needle size or so for whatever yarn you choose so you end up with a nice dense fabric, and you’re good!! Even this instruction is fairly forgiving because by double knitting you’ll create a nice squishy fabric.
