You will need less than one 100g ball of yarn for this pattern and you can use either Aran, Worsted or Double Knitting weight (although it will be a slimmer band if you use double knitting). The finished width of the head band is approximately 10.5cm, the length will depend on how large your head is. In addition to 4.5mm knitting needles you will also need a cable needle.
