Double-Strung Hat

The Backstory:

After visiting String Thing Studio in Brooklyn, NY for the first time, I was inspired by their store colorway “Strung Out’ in Asylum Fibers to design this slouchy beanie.

The pattern uses a stitch repeat I’m calling “Mockinette”. It creates extra slouch with less yardage, and uses an aran or worsted yarn held double and single throughout in an easily memorized row repeat.

When using a speckled yarn, you’ll notice a subtle self-striping effect, and the speckles will blend a little with the yarn’s main color. The red specking in the “Strung Out” color way mixed with the white base reads as pink in the hat.

The second sample is also in Asylum Fibers’ Errant Aran base; “Far, Far Away”.

The Needs:

-US 10 (6mm) and US 10 1/2” (6 ½ mm) 16” or magic looping needles.
-1 skein of Asylum Fibers, Errant Aran; Samples in the “Far, Far Away” and “Strung Out” color ways. 100g, 181 yards; Worsted/Aran weight.
-Gauge: 13 stitches per 4” of the ribbing pattern repeat; 11 stitches and 24 rows in the body of the hat stockinet pattern.
-Finished Measurements of samples: 8 ½” wide and 10 ½” in length. Adult Medium.
