Double Stuff
An elegant eyelet rib adds interest to these simple, easy to knit mittens. The eyelets do double duty as both frivolous decoration and functional button holes. Knit the cuff short to wear over fingerless mitts or longer to wear alone.
Quick and easy stockinette in the round, with a thumb hole to wear alone or to add an extra layer of warmth under mittens.
Make mittens, make arm warmers, make them both! Wear them together or separately.
YARN: worsted weight, or any yarn that gives you gauge. Allow 165 yd for the mittens and 125 yards for the arm warmers/gauntlets.
NEEDLES: Your choice of double points, 2 circulars, or one circular long enough for magic loop, in a size that gives you gauge.
BUTTONS: 4 shank buttons, 5/8” -3/4”. Those are the ones with the plastic or metal loop on the back instead of holes. These are threaded onto the yarn before you cast on. You can use the buttons with holes instead, if you want to sew them on afterward.
OTHER STUFF: stitch markers, yarn needle for sewing in ends, scrap yarn or stitch holder.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Gauntlets: 8” circumference at the elbow end, 7” at the wrist end, 7.5” or 11” long.
Mittens: 8” circumference at the hand, length is variable, to fit.
