Pattern calls for two colors (1 skein each) of handpainted DK weight yarn. These are held and knitted together throughout the project to achieve the specified gauge.

From the pattern: “Two strands of handpainted yarn are held together so their colors blend. This also produces a thicker fabric, which helps the bag keep its shape. Construction of the bag combines the concepts of starting from a strip (which forms the sides, bottom and strap) and using beometry to make the variegated yarns more interesting. Each side of the bag is three-quarters of a mitered square, missing the top triangle, which means that it can be worked flat.
