A very warm, minimal winter hat I designed for myself during a time when I worked on a farm during a cold winter in the Catskills of NY.

This hat features a double layer for extra warmth, which makes it also conveniently reversible. Made with double pointed needles, top down (in the round) to the ribbed band, which is made double then the second half is knitted to mirror the first and ultimate folded inside and the two tops joined to create the double layer

Skills needed:

knitting in the round

kfb: knit front and back

knit + purl

m1: making a new stitch

k2tog: knitting two stitches together

Sizing (measurements taken flat after blocking)

Child (approx ages 1-5): 7”W x 7”H (18cmW x 18cmH)

Small/Medium: 9”W x 9”H (23cmW x 23cmH)

Large: 10”W x 9.5”H (26cmW x 24cmH)

Materials

Approximately (200)250(300) yards / (185)230(280)m of sport weight yarn. I used Wing and a Prayer farm’s ‘the happiest yarn’ in Natural for the adult size and Natural with Weld & Saxon Blue for the child size
