Doubling Dune
When I was learning to knit, back in the Dark Ages, I remember watching my Gran working cables I was both fascinated and concerned! Because I loved how they looked, but I never thought I would be good enough to do anything like that! Then again I was only 8! But once I had the confidence to try cable stitches for myself, I fell in love!
I particularly enjoy working Sand Cables and the Doubling Dune cowl is the first pattern in my Dune Collection, which heavily features this soft, meandering cable pattern.
Using DK yarn this cowl is a great value one skein wonder and whilst the cables lend themselves to any DK yarn, they look amazing in yarns with a slight halo. Alternatively, you could always knit your favourite DK together with a lace weight mohair for that an added touch of luxury.
This is a gorgeous, cosy cowl that looks great on everyone and can be knitted by anyone. It’s certainly an easy, fun and relatively quick knit. It’s an ideal weekend project and perfect for gifting either to yourself or to someone else.
One thing’s for sure though, you’ll be knitting up a few versions of this lovely accessory and adding them to your autumn/winter wardrobes.
Happy knitting!
Yarn Requirements:
1 x 100g skein (225m) or equivalent of DK yarn
Dimensions (after blocking):
L: 62cm, W: 30cm
Recommended yarn:
For the pattern sample I used a gorgeous custom dyed 100% Wensleydale DK from Yarn Whisperer, but any DK yarn would look great in this design.
As mentioned above the cables do lend themselves to DK yarns with a slight halo, but they will look great either way. However, if your favourite DK is smooth, you can always knit it together with a lace weight mohair to give you that soft luxurious feel.
