Douglas the Highland Cow is the first of his kind to enter the menagerie, followed by Morag in 2018. Highland cows (known locally to Scots as ‘coos’) are the oldest cattle breed in the world, originating from the Highlands and the Western Isles of Scotland. They were originally black, but the Victorians selectively bred them to become the standard ‘ginger’ colour we all recognise and love today – captured perfectly by TOFT’s Fudge shade. This highland cow pattern is perfect for levelling up your crochet skills if you are a beginner, teaching you a few extra techniques like changing colour.

This soft toy will look at home in the nursery, sitting on the shelf or lovingly gift-wrapped for the loved ones in your life. Once you’ve finished crocheting Douglas the Highland Cow, you’ll be ready to start the next animal in the collection with this addictive new hobby!

TOFT’s Edward’s Menagerie collection is a series of crochet amigurumi toys designed by Kerry Lord. This crochet animal kit contains TOFT’s quality pure wool yarn and an easy-to-follow downloadable pattern. There are video links for all the crochet stitches and techniques used in the pattern to get you started and help you complete your toy. Share your progress with the TOFT community on Instagram @toft_uk using the #edsanimals hashtag.
