Doverfell: adult
Doverfell is a cozy zippered hoodie cardigan with inset curved pockets, featuring an easy textured stitch. Knit in a soft, lofty, smooth DK yarn, this jacket is versatile enough to be used as a casual fall or spring jacket or to make a warm layer on a winter day.
This pattern is for an adult woman. A matching child’s pattern with sizes ranging from 2T to a child’s 10 is available from the same issue of Twist Collective (Fall 2013) either sold separately or together with this pattern.
The body of this cardigan is knit in one piece from the bottom to the armholes, then divided and the fronts and backs worked separately. Set-in sleeves are knit separately and sewn in during finishing.
This cardigan features inset curved pockets. The pocket linings are worked separately to the beginning of the pocket opening, and then joined with the body and worked to the top of the pocket opening. The pocket fronts are also worked separately, split off from the body, and then joined to the body and liners at the top of the pocket opening. The fronts are worked straight up without neckline shaping, and placed on a holder while the back
is worked. The stitches for the fronts and back are then joined to work the hood back and forth.
The hood is seamed along the top using the 3-needle bind-off method.
Meant to be worn with 1-3” positive ease, it is written in eight sizes, to fit a 28” bust to a 58” bust. It requires 16 (18, 19, 21, 22, 24, 26, 27) skeins of yarn to complete.
The gauge is 22 stitches and 32 rows to 4 inches/10 cm in St st; the suggested needles are 2 circulars each for size 4 and 6 (check gauge to ensure the correct needle size is used.) Notions required include a separating zipper 22 (24, 24, 24, 24, 26, 26, 26)“ / 56 (61, 61, 61, 61, 66, 66, 66) cm long, stitch markers, four or more stitch holders or waste yarn, and a sewing needle and thread to match the cardigan.
