Draconis Chinensis
2/13/21
This pattern still has a few tweaks to be worked out. It was a bit ambitious for where I was in my growth as a designer, so I need to take some time to revamp it. I will reactivate it when I have the time to rework it so that the pattern is up to my standards.
Description
The Draconis Chinensis shawl is a triangular shawl with alternating panels of lace and reverse stockinette flanking a distinctive central stockinette “beam” and finished with a lace border. I drew inspiration for the shawl from a trip to southern China and the beautiful architecture of the Ganden Sumtseling Monastery in Shangri La County. It is worked seamlessly from the center out and uses intarsia for the broken strips of lace. The large holes are worked by knitting multiple yarn overs and then working short rows between each hole. The alternating colors, varying textures, and unique features of this shawl make it a one-of-a-kind piece that you will be reaching for again and again.
