The DRAGON mosaic overlay pattern can be created with any variegated and black DK/Light Worsted. The photos in this pattern feature Cygnet Color Rush in “Pepper” (a near 400 yds per skein) and Paintbox DK/Light Worsted acrylic yarn in “Black”. Keep in mind that Cygnet Color Rush is a UK brand and you may wish to substitute with a brand from your own region. If you reside in the U.S. and wish to purchase the Cygnet Color Rush, you can find it at Wool Warehouse for competitive pricing and shipping, provided you are willing to wait on the snail mail.

The Dragon Pattern utilizes the mosaic overlay technique. This technique is worked “front-side-only”, which means you never turn the work. You fasten off at the end of each row, return to the first stitch, and attach the specified color of yarn to begin a new row. Mosaic Overlay technique calls for back-loop single crochet and dip-down double crochet stitches throughout. It is primarily worked from the graph, but includes written instructions, specs, graph key, glossary of abbreviations and designer notes for beginners. The graph is fully expandable and contact information is included in the pattern should you need to ask a pattern-related question.

The Dragon pattern measures an approximate 64” x 49” upon completion. The pattern is written and designed in a way that does not allow for a reduction of size. It is constructed along the length, thereby ensuring the fringe falls top and bottom of the blanket. You will then want to trim the fringe to a length of 1” to 1.5”

The patterns calls for 2,625 yds of BLACK acrylic DK/Light Worsted and 2,756 yards of variegated acrylic DK/Light Worsted. If you are uncertain on the number of skeins you will need, you can divide the yardage called for in the pattern by the yardage on the yarn label.

You will need a 3.5 mm crochet hook and will probably want yarn markers.

The repeating geometric design in this pattern will feature in the upcoming “DRAGON WHEEL” pattern, (not yet released). The upcoming pattern will allow for size variations.
