“So far away we wait for the day for the lives all so wasted and gone. We feel the pain of a lifetime lost in a thousand days through the fire and the flames we carry on.”
Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce

Named for the pain, frustration, and necessary fortitude that we’ve all had to endure and discover as we each forge our own path through the unbelievable events of 2020. This shawl provides some garter-stitch comfort knitting by letting you work from stash and by letting you control the size and final shape.

Dragon Force is worked modularly, from the center-outwards, section by section and is finished with an encompassing border. Pictured is a 6-section version symbolizing dragon wings in mid-flight (we’re not through this yet), but feel free to make it with more or less sections as you see fit.

Instructions are given for both a traditional pattern (to make the same shawl as shown) and a percentage option so that you can use any yarns that you like. The sample shown used most of 3 full skeins of fingering weight but feel free to play with the striped section & the width of the border to really customize the shawl to suit your own personality, available yarns, & knitting time.

PS: It’s totally ok to take a page out of Elizabeth Zimmerman’s book & just knit until you’re ready to be done with it. Just enjoy your knitting & have fun with your yarns. ^_^

Notes:
You can knit the body of the shawl on straight needles, but due to the number of stitches you will need a long circular for the border and bind-off.

Pattern is written but charts weren’t needed so they aren’t included. Pattern does include worksheet and instructions for working with any yarn weight or yardage available and the finished size is completely (and easily) customizable so you can make this for babies up through adults.

This pattern has been test knit and tech edited.
