“Create a magnificent sailing ship in celebration of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.”
This ship isn’t hard to make, but it’s time consuming with all the parts. The crochet skills involved are basic, with the majority of the pieces using only sc sts. There aren’t any fancy stitch patterns used (except for the scales on the dragon’s head and tail, but the instructions are detailed enough to be able to crochet the scales, too). The instructions are long and thorough with 13 pages in the PDF file. There is one challenging part: the head (at least it was a “challenge” to design!!!). This dragon ship is only for those with enough patience to stick to it!
I’m going to qualify these statements, though: I just completed my first tablecloth and the dragon ship doesn’t take anywhere near as long as a tablecloth to make!!! And it doesn’t take thousands of yards of crochet thread like a tablecloth, either!
Some parts of the dragon ship use 2 strands of thread held together and other parts use only 1 strand of thread.
This pattern is only available as an online bonus for subscribers of Crochet World magazine.
Update: I won a Flamie award for this Dragon Ship on April 18, 2011! Woohoo!!!
