Dragon Skin Hat and Gloves
I came across this aptly named Dragon Skin pattern in Donna
Kooler’s Encyclopedia of Knitting and knew I needed to use it
for a pair of gloves. I was able to get gloves and a hat out of
two skeins of the vibrant Melody Superwash by Jojoland, so I
designed this pair of accessories.
The Dragon Skin Hat has a non-traditional structure, creating
different effects with the long sections of the colorway. The
hat band is worked in vertical rows, and then the crown and
brim are created by picking up stitches along the band edge.
Even though the hat is worked in three sections, there is only
one short seam.
The fingers of the Dragon Skin Gloves really show off the
harmonizing colors of the yarn. These gloves are designed to
fit snugly to emphasize the texture of the pattern.
At a multiple of 26 stitches, the Dragon Skin pattern does not
lend itself to fine-tuned sizing. The gloves fit Women’s Small-
Medium. For Large-Extra Large, I recommend a slightly
heavier yarn and 1-2 size larger needle.
