ragon Tears is based on the center design panel, known as “Teardrops” in the design book that I used. The pattern resembles a circular design with a single drop in the middle of it, which I thought looked very much like a dragon’s eye with the moss stitch background. A second element to mimic dragon skin is the diagonal knit/purl increase area. Instead of plain stockinette, I wanted to keep it interesting by adding some simple knit and purl stitches that would flatter the “V” shape of the shawl. Finally, we add one more nod to the mystical beast that is a dragon by adding undulating 8-stitch cables to the sides.

The result looks like a tail winding around either side and ending at the tip of the shawl. I used smoky gray, browns, and blues to signify smoke and tears. It would look fabulous in a singular color as well, playing up the stitch variations.
