Dragonfly Frieze
About the Design
This design comes from the era of the Art and Crafts Movement.
There are so many wonderful, simplified forms of Nature that Gustav Stickley brought into the world through his Craftsman Workshops.
I chose his Dragonfly Frieze and worked it into an allover design, so that one has to LOOK for the dragonfly! I love creating graphics that are really made of one element.
As there is no competing with such a large graphic, I’ve chosen a small border pattern to define it, rein it in, if you will!
As I’ve worked this design in a bulky wool, made bulkier with the stranding, I used a more open neck treatment to add to its’ wearability.
One can wear it outdoors for a cold, winter’s day walk, with the neck up with clasp closed, or on a cool Spring or Autumn day, with the neck open and collar folded down.
Knit a piece of our decorative arts past, and wear it with spirit!
